Education

Support for Education

InterContinental Hotels Group views corporate support for education as an endowment of the future of both the company and the hospitality industry.

Education-related programs, therefore, comprise an important part of our giving agenda. Included in our involvement in this area are:

United Negro College Fund - A supporter since 1992, InterContinental Hotels Group has contributed nearly $120,000 to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) through donations and scholarships. The UNCF is one of the oldest and most successful African American education assistance programs in the United States.

American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) - InterContinental Hotels Group is a major sponsor of the AH&LA's New Century Fund campaign, a multi-year, $8 million dollar initiative to help meet the growing needs of the lodging industry by encouraging students to pursue careers in hospitality. The AH&LA serves the lodging industry by providing resources for educational and research projects that ensure continued growth and opportunities for the industry and its employees and guests.

InterContinental Hotels Group Scholarship Program/North America - Children (up to age 23) of regular, full-time U.S.-based InterContinental Hotels Group, employees are eligible to apply for support through this program. Each year a full-tuition scholarship is awarded to the child or ward of: a company-managed hotel employee, a reservation center employee and an Atlanta corporate office employee. The annual scholarships are renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor's degree is earned. Selection is determined by the Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America, Inc., and is based on past academic performance, leadership, participation in extracurricular school activities, community service involvement, work experience and career and educational aspirations. In addition to the winners listed below, ten other student scholarships were renewed in 2002 for previous winners.
